PRINCIPLES OF THE CODE OF CONDUCT
- The learners, parents and educators of Hartbeespoort High School are committed to the following principles on which the Code of Conduct is based:
- Disciplined behaviour is essential for the well-being of the school, for a culture that is beneficial to the learning process and progress of learners, as well as for the successful achievement of the school’s goals.
- The code is based on educational principles, which allow and aim for the school to function as a harmonious community.
- The code aims at establishing a safe learning environment that provides security against any form of disruption.
- The code emphasizes the basic rights of educators to teach undisturbed and to maintain an orderly learning environment.
- The code aims at promoting a culture of mutual respect among all people involved in the educational process, self-discipline, responsible and exemplary behaviour.
- The code rejects any conduct or neglect by any person that infringes the relevant basic rights, as enshrined in the constitution of the Republic of South Africa, 1996 (Act 108 of 1996), which is specifically school related and applicable to this code.
- The disciplinary action will be fair, relevant and consistent at all times. The main focus will be on remedial and corrective measures and not on punishment.
- Any learner accused of misconduct will, unless he/she pleads guilty of own accord, be regarded innocent until proven guilty by means of a fair trial, or substantial dominance of evidence.
- In the case of misconduct learners may not be isolated at the school without supervision.
- Apologies for misconduct or confessions may not be obtained by means of force of any kind.
- Mass punishment is in principle not permitted unless collusion among learners can be proved.
